Magpie

 

With sharp eyes and sharper mind,

Magpie watches.

With probing beak and curious drive,

Magpie searches.

With raucous call and head held high,

Magpie laughs.

Fleet of foot and swift of wing,

Magpie dances.

In shimmering black and waistcoat white,

Magpie is a charming sight.

But sinister too in field and town,

Bird of omens, thief and clown
