Soul of the Forest

Darkness, punctuated by bright glimmers.

Pools of thought, sparkling like gemstones in a deep mine.

Timeless, yet driven by the seasons.

Changing yet constant, growing yet unmoving.

Thoughts run slow through minds of wood, unheard by the ephemerals,

That live fleeting lives between trunk and branch.

The trees speak, their voice heard not with the ear,

But with the eye, nose and the heart.

Listen to their silence; ignore the distractions of flesh and blood.

Reach out with your spirit.

Beneath the bark, let your thoughts flow with the sap.

Feel the echoes of history, the seasons of years past.

But this is just the beginning; the loom upon which the tapestry hangs.

Widen your range; let in the minds of the flesh.

Compare them to the trees; like fireflies on a summer night.

Their minds so quick and uncomplicated carry an upbeat harmony,

Against the slow chords of the trees.

Now focus, not on each in turn, but on the whole.

Feel the wood and flesh, feel the breeze and the earth.

Open yourself to the forest mind,

Slow and quick; an amalgam of contradictions.

This now is the spirit of the forest, the mind of Nature itself.

All around and ever-present, seeing the moment and the age.

When you understand this wisdom, your journey has truly begun.
